Conference Centre DeDoelen, Rotterdam, Netherlands

From a concert hall to conferences "on demand"

In Europe's largest port, in Rotterdam, there is an eternal flow of commodities which are shipped to all corners of the world. The centrally located concert hall, dating back to the early seventies, has been converted into the high-performance conference centre of De Doelen, in order to meet the increasing demand for suitable conference facilities.

The operators have created an unusual concept: the entire furniture is kept in a central store, called up as required and returned at the end of the day. Exact calculations have proved that rooms can be used more efficiently in this way than with traditional furnishing layouts.

This makes considerable demands on the furniture and particularly on the table system: minimum weight, top versatility for table configurations, quick assembly, easy, compact storage, enduring quality and last, but not least, a more reserved, clear design language with long-term appeal. Both property developers and architect agreed that the new Contas table system was a range that met these criteria most ideally.
